Truly an uncommon pipe shape, but you may not realize what you’re missing!! Personally, I have had two ‘squashed tomatoes’ custom made for me at significant expense! Why? This shape is magnificently cool in the hand for the hot bowl tobacco smokes that I so much enjoy. For those that know me, my work in restorations & pipe choices know that I love my Freehand’s! This pipe is in fact, a handmade freehand, truly a OOK pipe made in Italy by a wife & husband team! The Manellis’ are well into taking pipe artistry to new level.
Classified actually as a quarter churchwarden stemmed squashed tomato, I refer to my customs as ‘squishy tomatoes!’ These pipes are perfect smokers! As for my ‘enhanced,’ I have taken the liberty of enhancing the bare briar bowl with M.C. Bauman Uncle Matt’s Bowl Black to both heat protect & smooth this tobacco chamber for a perfect carbon cake with the first smoker. I have also re-polished this stem.
In addition to my bowl preservation, I hand polished this pipe & stem with my proprietary hard wax blend to shine & preserve this pipe. A cool little surface briar knot, that I refreshed, appears towards the aft of this bowl only adding to its unique character. Imported directly from the Manelli shop in Italy, this handsome, brand new, handcrafted beauty has been hand polished and ready to be enjoyed for the first time!!
