An early 19th century American craftsman-made surveying compass & chain, dating from the first quarter of the 19th century, with nicely shaped wooden body 14.25\" long, with inset compass marked on the underside, \"Made for and sold by Thomas Biggs 66 south Front Street Philadelphia\". The sight vanes and wing screws are original pewter; the sight vanes retain the original paint. The field case and chain are also present and in good condition. Thomas Biggs was active from 1807 to 1826. A rare early American surveyor\'s outfit in very good condition.Questions? Call Dale [phone removed by ] Central time.
