This lot consists of an exceedingly rare example of an amazing 1908 Hess tin flywheel Avanti Peking-Paris race car. Celebrating the crazed race of 10th June 1907 from Peking to Paris, this is an incredible historical piece with striking artwork and details. In a stunning condition, has minimal wear. See pictures for details, as these form part of the description. This toy is equipped with the old flywheel mechanism which is well known among collectors for its temperamental and tricky operation. A friend of mine who is well versed on antique flywheel toys shared a non-intrusive hint on how to get these flywheel engines rolling properly. I have fitted two tiny rubber tubes on the ends of the engine shaft, and it indeed rolls flawlessly upon using this trick. See last picture. Roughly 13cm long. Very rare original box included, in near perfect shape.
