Here is a very-nice-quality/condition 16mm print of the 1927 Fox classic

Cinematography by Charles Rosher and Karl Struss

Academy-Award winner for1927(the first year of the award ceremony):Best Actress (Janet Gaynor), Best Cinematography, & Most Unique and Artistic Production
Originally released more than 90 years ago just before the end of the silent era, F.W. Murnau\'s SUNRISE remains among the finest, mostimpressiveandemotionallypowerful films ever made. It\'s a picture that by itself can make you appreciate what was lost after recorded dialogue came to dominate the camera.
Since the majority of existing 16mmsilent filmsare dupe prints, this physical copy of SUNRISE is likely a dupe also. But this one definitely didnot come from the same source as the most common bootleg 16mm negative for this title. Collectors who arefamiliarwith that long-available dupe would recognize this offered print as having far better visual quality ... probably originating from a higher source. Three years ago when I had the opportunity to make a back-to-back comparison with a like-new print from the Paul Killiam negative,I preferredthisone. (I particularly recall feeling that this printpresents richer visual detail within onscreen blacks and shadows.) This 50-year-old copy of SUNRISE is clearly superior to the Vesce dupes that were sold as of 1983. (For collectors who have been active that long.) While I don\'t know for sure, it\'s possible that the prevalent dupes could have been sourced from this print -- or another of its vintage.
Thisisabeautiful-quality print on 1968 Eastman black & white stock with a variable-density optical soundtrack; it has survived in very nice shape. In running it again to get screen shots, I counted only four inconspicuous splices throughout. (And two of thoseonly resulted from the film having been remounted from three units to two, with a satisfying reel break.) There is minimal visible wear and no warping orvinegar syndrome. Full credits are present, and original lab leaders at each end are still attached. (The accompanying photos are from the saleed print projected and are not frame grabs from Blu-ray, DVD, or the Internet. Notice how much less printed-in wear is visible, compared to many silent-era film prints you have seen.)The film runs 95 minutes and comes leadered and ready to run on one 2000-foot and one 1600-foot reel.
Note: In the film\'s famous \"swamptryst\" sequence a full moon is visible in the background, while my photos abovemake the moon look smeared. The \"moon\" must have been a light on the set, which my digital camera could not capture correctly. But onscreen, that moonappearsjust like the solid orb you expect to see.
I will answer any specific question about the print to the best of my knowledge (especially if you don\'t wait until thefinal day of thesale).Feel free to check my response as an seller. My shipping charges do not exceed actual costs; and I will combine multiple purchases for your savings if possible. An international buyer can opt to have the film shipped more economically on cores instead of reels -- I am sorry, but I cannot determine that adjusted delivery charge before the sale ends.
Please pay by PayPal within two days of sale\'s end; the item will be shipped quickly after payment. If item condition or quality differs in any way from my description, please notify me before you return.
