AUTHENTICBRITISH PATTERN 1796 INFANTRY OFFICER SWORD, NAPOLEONIC WARS
THIS HAS BEEN ENGRAVED WITH THEORIGINAL OWNERSINITIALSON THE SHELL GUARD
The sword is 38 ¼ inches long
The blade alone at 31 ¾ incheslong
The blade is 1-1/16 inch wide, and 1/4” thick at the base.
The hilt has a great dark patinaand has the owners initials engraved on the folding guard. The sword has thequillon, which is often broken off of these swords and the grip appears to bein good shape. The silver wire wrap is missing from the grip and the springthat holds the folding guard up is missing although the guard itself iscomplete.
The blade is very dark and not ingood condition but it has been stabilized from further corrosion. While it iscomplete, it is pitted throughout the length. The edge is sharp but rough. (pleasesee pictures).
There is noscabbard with this sword.
Although rough itmight be fun to research the owners initials and find the history of this swordas these are getting more difficult to find.
