1800\'s Cheyenne Native American Plains Indian Painted Buffalo Hump War Shield For Sale

This is an Antique Native American Indian War Shield. It was recently acquired from a private collection in South Dakota. The piece was originally collected from the Western Nebraska area in the early 80\'s and is believed to be of Cheyenne origin. It is made from leather/hide which was likely taken from the hump of a buffalo as it is quite thick and is shaped similar to a turtle shell. It is decorated with trade cloth around the edges perhaps for reinforcement and also has what is left of the cloth drops. It has a unique geometric design painted on the front that is still very visible although faded. It still has the original leather straps, one has a bit of damage from a rodent but nothing major. It is very large measuring 20\" tall and 19\" wide. This is a great piece of early Indian history.
