Exceptionally rare, original and stunningly beautiful, 1890\'s American Seal Paint Chromolithographed Advertising Sign featuring a wonderful image a young boy painting his father\'s top hat white!!
This wonderful and exceptionally rare American Chromolithograph Advertising Sign measures approx. 14\" by 11\" and is printed on a light weight, textured surface card stock.
The Sign features a wonderful image of a young boy seated on a wooden bench. A can of American Seal \"Outside White\" Paint is at his feet. He holds a large top hat on his lap and is happily painting that top hat with the white paint. Text on the Sign reads in part \"American Seal\" / \"Paint for Houses, Floors, Roofs, Fences, Cars and Bridges\" / \"Cements for Slate, Tile and Metal Roofs, Stoves, Ranges and Furnaces\". Text at the bottom of the Sign identifies the manufacturer of \"American Seal\" Paints and Cements - William Connors of Troy, New York.
The Chromolithography on the Sign is of the very highest quality although it is unsigned by the lithographer. There are register marks at the edges of this wonderful Advertising Sign and it appears that this was a Printer\'s Proof (although it is not a “mirror image” sign). This is a Corrected Printer\'s Proof that appears exactly as the final Sign would appear!!
We have been unable to uncover ANY examples of this wonderful Chromolithograph Advertising Sign nor any mention of it in any of the Collector\'s Reference Works. We believe it to be VERY rare and perhaps a unique example - it certainly is an outstanding example of a 19th century American Paint Company Advertising Sign!!
This rare and very beautiful, 1890\'s American Paint Company Chromolithograph Advertising Sign is in excellent condition - the colors are bright and vibrant - rich and warm with no fading or color loss. The entire Sign is exceptionally well preserved - clean and crisp with no soiling, staining, damage or repairs of any kind. The corners are sharp and there is not even a hint of edge wear!!!
