Rare and beautiful, ca1880\'s classic Bronze Civil War GAR / Grand Army of the Republic Membership / Corps Badge - with a barpin strap of a US Army Colonel designating this badge as having belonged to a Post Commander orStaff member of a Divisional Commander. This Beautiful Ribbon Badge / Medal is of the classic 2 piece, flag ribbon form and measures approx. 3\" long overall and 1 1/2\" across at the bar pin.
The badge consists of a, oblong bronze bar pin with a black field and the spread wing eagle insignia of a Colonel. Attached to the upper bar pin via an American Flag form silk ribbon is the 5 pointed star \"Medal\" of the GAR.
This very attractive GAR Badge is in very good to excellent condition. The bar pin is in excellent condition with little to no significant wear. The flag form ribbon is intact and well preserved but with a few short tears and some very light soiling. The Star shaped medal has only light wear to the very highest points of the casting. All of the bronze elements retain a significant amount of their original gilt surface patina (see the scans below).
