1885 Meagher Whole Plate Wood Tailboard Camera w/Orig. Meagher Glass Plate Box For Sale

Here\'s an ancient whole plate tailboard camera made in the mid-1880\'s by Patrick Meagher, one of England\'s premier camera builders. The camera comes with a seldom seen storage cabinet (made and signed by Meagher) for glass whole plates.The camera is in good condition throughout, with normal signs of wear and use, but no evidence of neglect of misuse. The maroon leather bellows are still supple and appear to be in excellent condtion, with no tears or misfolds. That said, I have not checked them for light leaks and I am offering the camera for historical purposes only, with no assurances as to whether or not it is suitable in its present condition for photography. Lens elements are clear and undamaged, and the iris aperture adjustment is working properly. Lens barrel is in good shape, and it screws snugly into the flange. The lens is unsigned, and I do not know its focal length, nor do I know if it is original to the camera. The ground glass focusing plate is in excellent condition, with no cracks or other damage.
Plate cabinet exhibits normal wear and tear given its age and utility, with some splinters and chips, as well as some residual adhesive on the slide-in-lid. Lid opens and closes easily, and as you can see in the photographs, the Meagher name and address are blind-stamped into its top side.
