This is an sale for a 1890 Edison Class M Phonograph
all authentic and in working order
Edison North American Class M Electric Phonograph,No. 7028, with reproducer “Standard Speaker” which was introduced in 1889, No. 15157,weighted two-ball governor, brake and large electric motor with drivinghorizontal pulley, on mahogany base with three nickel-plated plaques engravedrespectively "Class M", "North AmericanPhonograph Co., New York”, with ultimate patd. dates to July 31 1888, "The NorthAmerican Phonograph Company" under the restrictions that it shall not be used within the Stateof New Jersey and with drawer numbered (17 3) as the basis (see pictures).
This was extremely expensive machine and waspurchased in 1890 for 220 $, when average salaries were around $ 40 a month.
The horn, which is also original,it was bought in Italy and is a RARE "Anglo Italian CommerceCompany"that (see pictures) can be divided into two parts.
There is NOT battery.
On September10, 1889, during his two-month trip toEurope, on the occasion of EXPO in Paris, Edison was invited to a grandluncheon at the Restaurant Brébant on the first level of the Eiffel Tower. Atthat reception Edison presented Eiffel with a 'spectacle' Class M phonograph.The model of phonograph in sale is the same that is still in the apartment atop the tower atalmost 1,000 feet, and is on display along with wax figures of Edison, Eiffel,and Eiffel's daughter.
Today the Class M is one of the most desirable ofall phonographs.
