Outstanding and quite rare, 1890\'s Grand Army of the Republic / Civil War Veteran\'s Nickel Plated Tin and Copper Encampment Souvenir Canteen. This outstanding GAR Canteen measures approx. 4 3/8\" in diameter and retains the majority of its original, braided cord hanger.
The Canteen is made of a heavy gauge tin with a brilliant, nickel plated surface and features applied copper central medallion on one side. The copper medallion on the front of the Canteen features the interlocking emblem \"GAR\" as well as much smaller text that reads \"Patented\". The back of the Canteen carries the mark of the manufacturer - J. Ledig & Son of Philadelphia.
The Canteen was likely a Souvenir from a National or State GAR Encampment and although it is undated, it came to us with a small collection of GAR Souvenir Canteens from the 1890\'s.
This outstanding, 1890\'s GAR Encampment Souvenir Canteen is in excellent, original condition. The Canteen is sound and intact with all surfaces well preserved. the original nickel plating is exceptionally well preserved - brilliant and without significant wear of any kind. The Canteen retains its original cork and the original chain cork keeper as well. The original braided cord hanger is present but has breaks and knotted repairs 9see the scans below).
A very rare and very attractive, 1890\'s Grand Army of the Republic / Civil War Veteran\'s Nickel Plated Tin and Copper Encampment Souvenir Canteen and a fantastic addition to any Civil War or GAR collection!!!

Important Notes about Shipping Charges:
The amount quoted for Shipping & Handling is calculated by and is equal to the EXACT amount charged by the Post Office plus a $1.00 \"packing fee\" - the $1.00 fee is our only compensation for the virgin packing materials we use on all of our professionally packaged boxes as well as our cost for the salaried help that does most of our packing - as I am sure you can see, we make NO profit on the Shipping charges and, in fact, our costs are usually greater than the $1.00 fee. Please contact us if there are any issues regarding the cost of shipping.
