This is a Columbia Century bike from Pope Mfg. Co. It's either an 1893 or 94, because as I remember, those were the only 2 years for the elliptical sprocket.
I got this from an sale in rural Ohio last weekend. It had been stored in a barn for at least 40 years.
All the parts are original to the bike. No parts were swapped. This bike has not been tinkered with. It has the optional rat-trap pedals.
The rear brake system is gone, including the hand lever. The last pic shows that some of the brake linkage was still there and comes with it.
These bikes were introduced at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago.
It's rusty, but all the parts are free. Some of the original black paint remains. The only serious rust is one spot on the front rim(see pic).
This would be a fun winter project for a serious antique bike lover who wants a seriously collectible specimen.
I'll ship it in 2 boxes very carefully.
Thanks for flying with Crazyhawk!! Please read "fine print" below.
*** The bike is sold as-is because it is used. I try to describe what I see, but I can't get it all, so look at the pics and ask questions if you have them. No returns and no refunds. Will ship to LOWER 48 STATES ONLY via UPS, NO EXCEPTIONS! Local pick-up is fine also, in the Fremont, Ohio area. Payment due within4 days of sale close or it gets relisted. I pack bicycles very well so they have the best chance to make it to you unharmed. Thebike will be partially disassembled for shipping. Thanks.
