Make sure to check out all of my sales after you look at this one. I\'m listing an eclectic assortment of antiques and collectibles, and I suspect there will be something of interest to just about everyone.Here\'s an early and ingenious detective camera manufactured/marketed in the 1890\'s by Comptoir International Photographie in Marseille. The camera employs a falling plate film-changing mechanism, whereby unexposed sheets of film are released into the photographic field while exposed sheets of film are collected in the back. The camera includes a complete set of film holders, its original carrying strap, both metal viewfinder hoods, both sets of viewfinder prisms and mirrors, and both of the spring-operated pressure plates required for the changing mechanism to work. The camera\'s condition overall is quite nice, and it appears to be original throughout. There\'s an age related crack on the back door (which has no doubt been exacerbated by the force required to shut the door when the rear pressure plate is in place) but the wood overall remains in very good condition, and the rear door stays snugly shut when it\'s latched. The plate changing mechanism is erratic (film holders have to loaded carefully and then oriented perfectly in the storage chamber), but for the most part it will work as designed when the release rod (which allows plates holding unexposed film to be forced into the photographic field) is activated from the front of the camera. Shutter also appears to be working properly, and the lens appears to be clear and undamaged. The viewfinders are hazy, as you\'d expect, but they\'re in good shape overall, and both of their hoods are original and intact. All of the brass fittings and small hardware are original and in good condition, with a nice patina and no corrosion or other damage. Please look at the accompanying photographs carefully and consider them part of the description, particularly with regard to the camera\'s overall condition and presentation. Camera measures approximately 10\" x 6\" x 6\". Shipping weight approximately 8 lb.That\'s about it. I will pack it carefully and properly. sale participants with no prior response history should also contact me before placing a offer. Buyer prepays and includes shipping. Paypal okay.
