1896 Lancaster Antique Wood Camera w/Orig. Lancaster Lens & Plate Holder * Exc. For Sale

Here\'s a beautiful 120-year-old J. Lancaster \"1896 Patent Instantograph\" quarter plate camera with a solid wood body, red leather bellows, a J. Lancaster lens, and an original Lancaster double-slide plate holder.Condition of the camera is excellent throughout. The mahogany body is lovely, and the wood\'s finish is original. Original brass fittings and hardware are clean, with a beautiful patina and only moderate tarnish consistent with age and authenticity. None of thefittings are damaged or missing. Ground glass is in excellent condition, with no damage, and the single element lens is clear, with no scratches, no fungus, no issues. Plate holder fits snugly into the back of the camera, and both slides move easily. Leather bellows are still supple and they appear to be light tight.
With sufficient lighting the lens will throw a clear, crisp image against the glass back. The camera has rack and pinion focusing, and the front standard still moves easily along the rack and retreats all the way into the body with no bellows misfolds when the camera is stowed away. Front bed extends several inches for long-focus camera work.
Overall, a high end, incredibly compact camera that looks great on a shelf or mounted to a tripod. Measures just 5 1/2\" wide by 6 1/2\" high, yet has all the fittings and features of a whole plate camera. A very cool piece.Shipping weight will be about 7 lb.That\'s about it.
