Very rare and important, original 1899 Advance Courier and Official Program from “Buffalo Bill’s Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World” with fantastic, chromolithograph covers and with the original, \"Official Program\" / Play Bill for a performance at Des Moines, Iowa. This rare and wonderful program from Buffalo Bill’s Traveling Extravaganza measures approx. 7 1/4” x 9 1/2” and contains 82 pages (including the \"Official Program\") of text and illustrations relating to the show, its’ history, Buffalo Bill’s past as the Chief of the U.S. Army Scouts, the American West, Indian Fighting, Cowboys and many other aspects of the performers and the show. It is titled on the cover \"Buffalo Bill\'s Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World\" / and \"Historical Sketches and Programme\". While these chromolithograph cover \"Programs\" are usually referred to as the \"Official Program\" of the Show, they were in fact Souvenir Booklets sold in advance of the Show\'s arrival in a town as part of the promotion effort - they were also sold on the grounds of the Show, sometimes with the actual \"Show Program\" inserted into the \"Advance Program\" as in the example offered here.

The front cover of the program is beautifully chromolithographed and features a fantastic, bust portrait of William “Buffalo Bill” Cody against a blue background. The rear cover is chromolithographed with a full page advertisement for Sen Sen Chewing Gum featuring a border of portraits of \"type\" performers from the Show.

Integrally bound at the front of the Advance Program is the Official Performance Program of the Show. It is titled \"Buffalo Bill\'s Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World Official Programme / Greater New York, 1899\". It contains 8 pages. Included are numerous advertisements for New York City area businesses as well as a Schedule of the Performances that made up the Show that day.

This very rare and fascinating, 1899 Buffalo Bill\'s Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World Advance Program is printed on a rather delicate paper stock and bound in its original, chromolithographed paper wrappers which are in excellent condition - generally clean and crisp and exceptionally well preserved with a tiny water stain at the left upper left edge of the front cover and 2 tiny edge chips (less than 1/4\" long) but with no edge wear, edge chips, soiling, damage or repairs of any kind. The interior pages are in near mint to mint condition - complete and tight and clean and crisp throughout. While we have handled scores of 19th century Buffalo Bill\'s Wild West Programs over the past 35+ years, we can honestly say that the Program offered here is one of the finest condition examples we have ever come across!!
