This sale is for an early 1900's antique surveyors brass compasswith ball and socket mount, in the original Mahogany box, marked on the label: W.& L.E. GURLEY - MANUFACTURERS OF CIVIL ENGINEERS' AND SURVEYORS INSTRUMENTS - TROY, N.Y. - ESTABLISHED IN 1845 - and marked on the compass face: W.& L.E. GURLEY - TROY, N.Y. - This premium quality precision instrument is solid brass with perpendicular bubble levels, needle stabilizer, folding upright sight vaines, and a ball and socket mount for staff. This compass type was used for mining, engineering, and surveying although this one appears barely used or just very lightly used. It is fully functional and in excellent condition. Please zoom in on all pictures for details. The compass measures 5 5/8" overall diameter with 4 5/8" upright sight vaines, and the total weight in the box is 3 lbs. 10 oz. The box has a little chip and crack on the lid but overall shows light storage wear and is also in excellent condition.
