If your collecting bent leans toward mechanical, technical or musical antiques, make sure to check out all of my sales this week. I'm listing 7 exceptional items you'll probably want to keep an eye on. You can also click this link toquickly add and then save me to your favorite seller listand will automatically send you updates when I putsimilar new sales online.Let me say, at the outset, that in the 22 years I've been selling cool stuff on , this is probably the coolest thing I've ever listed. It comes from the largest and best collection of Edisonalia in the world, and I consider myself a lucky guy indeed just to have it perched a few feet away from me as I type out this description.
Here's an excellent, complete (and -- as far as I can tell -- properly working) Edison Projecting Kinetoscope, manufactured ca. 1901. Serial number is 14XX. This is an early one, with butt joints on the cabinet. And it comes loaded, as you can see, with its original folding exhibitor board, its original oak cover (with the original latching hardware), its original Bausch & Lomb lenses, its original lamp house, its original crank, and its scarce, original (and short-lived) clutched mechanical take-up. The supply reel holder is a re-casting, and the high speed rewind crank was an aftermarket upgrade (I was told who probably made it, but I can't remember). I still have the original, smaller rewind crank and will include it with the projector (see last photo).
Condition is excellent and the mechanism still runs smoothly when the crank is turned, as does the single wing shutter. Take-up reel rotates, too. Oak retains its original finish and the cover locks down snugly on the projecting head. Both lenses are clear and undamaged, and their brass barrels are in good shape, with no dents or damage. Folding baseboard is in excellent condition, with its original finish intact and no damage or significant blemishes.
Please look at the pictures and consider them an integral part of the description. I've tried to describe the apparatus as accurately as I can, both cosmetically and mechanically, but my knowledge of projectors is somewhat limited, so please use your own good judgement when assessing the condition of this Projecting Kinetoscope. In any event, it is being offered for historical and/or collecting purposes only, with no assurances expressed or implied that it's still suitable for running motion picture film.
That's about it. I will package everything properly so that it arrives at your doorstep safely. I have been shipping antique phonographs and radios for years, and if you check my response, you'll see that I know how to do it correctly. OVERSEAS BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: This Kinetoscope is large and heavy, and it's going to be quite expensive to ship them abroad, so if you're outside the US, please contact me first for a shipping quote so that I confirm my ability to get everything to you. Buyer prepays and includes shipping. Overseas customers may remit payment with Paypal only.
