$42.00

Antique 1907 Asahel Curtis Magic Lantern Glass Slide of Ezra Meeker & Theodore Roosevelt in Washington, D.C. Old Oregon Trail Monument Expedition Oxen Team & Covered Wagon on Pennsylvania Avenue. This historic glass slide is in good condition for its age. It measures 4\" x 3 1/4\". It\'s a clear & crisp hand-colored image. The label on the side says: Asahel Curtis, (Edward S. Curtis\' brother) Commercial Photographer, 625 Colman Block, Seattle. There\'s a little oval red & white sticker in the lower left corner. The hand-colored image is of Ezra Meeker & Theodore Roosevelt on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. in 1907. Ezra Manning Meeker & William Marden were on an expedition traveling in an oxen drawn covered wagon to publicise & remember the importance of the Oregon Trail & to preserve it as a National Highway with a commemorative granite monument. They leftPuyallup, Washington in 1906, arriving in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1907. They continued past the end of the trail eastward & on the return journey, Meeker was introduced to Theodore Roosevelt in Washington, D.C. Roosevelt followed Meeker to Pennsylvania Ave. to examine the oxen team & wagon & this glass slide preserves that moment! In the background is Marden & his wife, Clara, who he married in New York. Clara is standing in front of the wagon with Jim, the Scotch Collie watchdog. The cover on the wagon says: Old Oregon Trail Monument Expedition, Left Puyallup near Tacoma, Wash. Jan. 5. 1906 Arrived in Indianapolis, Ind. Jan. 5, 1907, Distance of 2,610 Miles, A National Highway-Old Oregon Trail. The wagon cover also advertises the book & postcards of the expedition by Meeker that were available for sale. It\'s an amazing piece of early Oregon history & a wonderful image of Teddy Roosevelt. (And the oxen team & wagon!) It\'s a must-have Magic lantern glass slide for any history or presidential collector. Don\'t miss out on it, you won\'t find another one like it.
