Beautiful and very rare, original, 1907 Helmar Cigarettes, Western Americana Subject, Chromolithographed Advertising Sign with a fantastic image of the beautiful, \"Helmar Cowgirl\". This wonderful and very rare American Cigarette Company Paperboard Advertising Sign measures approx. 22\" by 29 3/4\" including its original, lettered advertising frame.
The Sign features a wonderful portrait of a beautiful, young Cowgirl wearing a wide brimmed, peaked crown, woven straw hat with a blue hatband. Her long, flowing hair falls over the shoulders of her fringed, buckskin jacket and behind her the western prairie fades into the distance. There is a small image of a pack of Helmar Cigarettes at the lower right hand corner and text at the top of the Sign reads \"Helmar / Turkish Cigarettes\". The image is signed in the plate by the artist \" A. H. Sonn \'07\". Both the Cowgirl and her hat appear on numerous Helmar Cigarette Advertising Signs and in various print advertisements of the early 20th century.
The lithography on this beautiful, early 20th century Tobacco / Cigarette Advertising Sign is of the very highest quality although it is unsigned by the lithographer.
Over the past 35+ years, we have been lucky enough to own 2 or 3 Helmar Cigarette Advertising Signs featuring this beautiful Cowgirl (and we have seen another 5 or 6 offered for sale during the same period), we are proud to offer this outstanding Advertising Sign here, as always, without reserve and with the confidence that it will attract the serious attention that it justly deserves.
This very rare and beautiful Helmar Cigarette / Cowgirl Image, Cigarettes Advertising Sign is in very good to excellent condition - the colors are bright and vibrant - rich and warm. Overall the Sign is very well preserved - generally clean and crisp with a bit of very light and unobtrusive soiling along the left hand edge and two thin lines of rubbing on the right section of the crown of the Cowgirl\'s hat. The original advertising frame retains its original lettering on the bottom stretcher which reads \"Helmar Turkish Cigarettes\" however the letters are faded. Overall this outstanding Sign is very well preserved, very attractive and displays beautifully.
