1910s \"The Gibson\" Mandolin w/ Original Hard Case. Model A from 1911-1918. :
$910.00

Travel back in time with this vintage Gibson mandolin. Though the model and serial number information is faded from the oval Gibson paper label inside the instrument, I believe it is a model A from 1911-1918. Not an A-0 or A-1, but simply A. It is black. It has the elevated faux tortoise shell pickguard that attaches to the bridge. The curious mechanism fastening the pickguard to the body has a patent date of July 4, 1911. Non-adjustable bridge. No peghead logo, but \"The Gibson\" logo inscribed on tailpiece. Bound top. Single wooden rope soundhole ring. Dot inlay on fretboard (pearloid?). Original tuners with good original buttons. Cosmetically, the mandolin is in good, though not great, vintage condition. There is a single 5/16\" hole drilled through the peghead, which I assume is not original. There was a pair of purple and gold ribbons strung through that hole, which I will include for charm\'s sake. There are a pair of very old family photographs glued on the front of the peghead. There is ordinary pick and play wear all over the mandolin, but, really, it still looks nice. The neck is straight and firmly attached with no separation. It comes with the original hard case (no key) which is lined with purple felt. All the latches, buckles and hinges work on the case. The outside of the case has old worn hotel stickers on it from Mexico, Detroit, New Orleans, and a couple unknown locales. The outside of the case is generally quite worn. I believe everything is original on the mandolin (except for the strings!). I got it from the original owner\'s grandson. His grandmother was a touring musician and music teacher, who also played fiddle and accordion (which I also bought). The mandolin does come with a 1953 receipt from the College of Music of Cincinnati, itemizing her earnings as a music teacher. It plays nicely, with action between 2/32\" and 3/32\" at the 12th fret. I just didn\'t have the heart to take the photos off the peghead, but the next owner certainly can. There is on this sale, so it will sell. It will be shipped in brand new cardboard 46” by 19” by 7” guitar box with plenty of new 1/2\" bubble wrap. Questions? Please check out my store, “The 1970 Time Travel Trailer,” for more cool vintage stuff, including a bunch of vintage guitars (and a few ukuleles, banjos, fiddles, mandolins and amps).
