1920 WESTERN AMERICANA CATTLE THIEF RUSTLER LYNCHING / HANGING PHOTOGRAPH RPPC:
$382.77

Very Rare and original, 1920’s Western Americana Real Photo Postcard / Photograph of the Lynching of a Cattle Rustler on the Western Plains.

This exceptionally rare and gruesome Image measures approx. 3 1/2” by 5 1/2” and depicts a man hanging from a makeshift gallows – the victim of “vigilante justice”. The Photograph features a Post Card back with an AZO stamp box that dates it to the 1920’s.

The Image is a grizzly scene depicting the body of a man hanging from a makeshift gallows on the western plains (likely Kansas or Nebraska). A hand lettered sign at the base of the gallows reads “Cattle Thief / $500 Reward / No Kort(sic)/ 777”. A man (likely the “Hangman”) stands to the left of the gallows pointing to either the man who was lynched or at sign at the base of the gallows.

While this simply amazing, Western Americana Image of the Lynching of a Cattle Rustler is among THE most striking that we have encountered in the past 38+ years, neither the Cattle Rustler nor the location of the lynching is identified. The background of the scene is an expansive plain attesting to the fact that the lynching likely took place on the central plains of the American West.

This exceptionally rare and original, Real Photo Postcard / Photo is unused and in excellent condition exhibiting sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. There is some minor bumping the corners and a few small spots of VERY light soiling but overall this fantastic, Western Americana Cattle Rustler Lynching Image is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully.

A very rare and original, 1920’s Western Americana Real Photo Postcard / Photograph of the Lynching of a Cattle Rustler on the Western Plains and a fantastic addition to any collection!!

On Oct-16-18 at 16:58:51 PDT, seller added the following information:

PLEASE NOTE: A kind friend informed us that the likely location where this Photo was taken was the \"777 Ranch\" in Hondo, Texas. He sent us the following note:\"There is a good chance this is the 777 Ranch in Hondo, Texas. Environment, azo box photo format, the number 777, boots, hats, and general dress also suggest this. Also, this would have been a somewhat typical experience and result even in this era. I have a lot of experience in theseRPPC from early Texas and the southwest.\"
