1921 Martin AK All Koa Mandolin For Sale

 1921 Martin AK  All Koa Mandolin      Stock# 40663 - Serial # 9502      Here\'s an early all-koa Martin mandolin, from barely a year after this model first appeared in the company\'s catalog. There\'s a lot of potential here, but it has seen lots of use and has some structural issues which we\'ll do our best to describe along with lots of detailed photos to show the surface condition.

Original finish throughout, with original tuners and flush celluloid pickguard. All the rosewood binding is solid with no breaks.  The only crack is a tight 2-inch hairline on the bass side (see photo #34).  The shellac finish on this AK has a lot of scuffs and scratches (which make the crack difficult to detect), so check the photos carefully.  Also note the heavy wear to the upper back edge of the headstock, which we presume was the result of floating around in a rough case for many years.  The oversized bridge is clearly not original.  These models have two top braces below the soundhole, both of which are cracked on the treble side but the braces are all there and should glue up nicely. There are no other cracks that we can find. The tailpiece is probably not original but is at least the correct style.  This AK has is the original bar-stock frets but they are not even, so count on some fret dressing, and some frets may need to be glued or re-seated so they\'re more solid.  This Martin AK mandolin is being sold \"as-is\" and Gryphon hasn\'t removed or added any parts or done any repairs.Please review all of the photos carefully, as they are a vital part of the description. Although Gryphon has the reputation of being a full-service repair shop, all sales on are strictly \"as-is\" and no after-sale service is implied or should be expected.
