A pioneering and leading edge artist inthe 1920\'s, Drtikol was best known for his remarkablephotographic studies of the nude female form and his modernist art decostyle. He was a hugely talented artist with an unusual life story (heabruptly gave up photography in 1935 at the height of his career, drifted into obscurity and largely lived a hermit\'s life until hisdeath). Much of Drtikol\'s photographic work did not survive over theyears and his work in any form (silver gelatin or photogravure) isconsidered rare. One of the most influential and important artists inphotographic history, Frantisek Drtikol\'s iconic images aresought after by collectors and held in important art collections andmuseums throughout the world. Thisphotogravure is guaranteed to be authentic and comes with a hand signedCERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (COA) with unique individual registered andcertified serial number from the Finephoto Archive & Database.Undermagnification this plate shows a tight \"honeycomb\" grid, excellentpressing of ink and a wide range of tone - all indicative of a highquality sheet fed gravure print. The watermark word \"Finephoto\" does not appear on the actual print. READY FOR FRAMING & DISPLAY! - The expensive engraved copper plate photogravure process and the resulting fineprints make vintage photogravures highly collectible and excellentvintage prints for framing. This photogravure plate is professionally trimmed with a 3/8 inch border surrounding the actual full frame image to facilitate ease of matting and framing. ABOUT PHOTOGRAVURE: Photogravureis an intaglio print making process utilizing a carefully etched copperplate made from the original negative/image. Prints are made bypressing suitable paper heavily down upon the inked copper plate whichhas been intricately etched to varying depths corresponding with theactual tonality of the original negative, This precisely etched platecombined with a fine \"honeycomb\" screen controls the amount of ink tobe transferred to the paper at any given point in direct proportion tothe variation of tone in the original image. The result is a truecontinuous tone print which combines many qualities of a traditionalsilver based photograph with a tactile feel similar to an etching, engraving or lithograph.Rich in tonal detail, the photogravure process produces delicatelyrendered shades for a look which is unique in the world of photographicprint making. In the early to mid 1900\'s photogravure was selected(when budgets allowed) for special high quality publishing andportfolio projects, but due to its significant expense and labor, theprocess is rarely seen today. FromMan Ray and Ruth Bernhard to Brett Weston and Ansel Adams, many of theworld\'s most renowned photographic masters have published their images inthe rich photogravure process.***WARNING: Theabove listing description is COPYRIGHT protected material under UnitedStates & International Copyright & Intellectual Property laws.Unauthorized copying or use of ANY PART of this description isprohibited.
