Description 1930\'s SEARS ELGIN ROBIN BICYCLE FEATURING \"ZEPPELIN\" AIR-SHIP STREAMLINE TANK DESIGN This is the rare Sears, Roebuck, and Co.ELGIN \"Robin\" with a Corrugated Zeppelin-type streamline tank design that was patented in 1936. This particular bike is a 1938 model. This bike was found and diligently pieced back together over the course of several years. The frame is solid and straight but appears to have been very neatly repaired (where the top bar meets the headtube.) The tank is an \"Exact\" reproduction made of fiberglass and it has a double hinged door just like the originals. The tank was painted years ago and proper horn and headlight buttons were installed. The combination horn~headlight cover is very nice (much better than most.) The horn and headlight guts are in decent condition.(The guts are usually missing.)The headlight lens is missing but nice reproductions are available. The fenders are real steel and have a few typical tears but the flared ends are still in great condition and not shaved off as so many usually are. These fenders are so rare that we have been offereda grand each for them!! The 1938 style carrier is missing from the bike, but those are quite common and easy to find. The saddle top is a Beautiful original TROXEL model. The chain guard is one of a few proper models that were used. The front bracket of the guard needs to be slightly modified. The chain is a skip-link style top quality DIAMOND brand. The streamlinetank design of this bicycle is the \"ONLY\" design that truly looks like a real \"ZEPPELIN\" airship in flight! I doubt that most Zeppelin artifact relatedcollectors even know that this bike actually exists! An even rarer \"Shaft Drive\" version of this same bike was tested by SEARS and a few prototypes are known to have survived. One was owned by the famed motorcycle collector Jesse James a few years back and that particular bike sold for nearly $30,000.!!! With a little bit of engineering, this bike could be modified into a shaft drive model too,if so desired. (Just a thought.) This bike is solid, and it\'s close to 98%complete and proper.ThisStreamlined ZEPPELIN\"Dream Bike\"is very likelyyour Very BEST chance at owning a really affordable Classic ELGIN Robin!
