Antique Cast Iron
Cream Colored Arcade Kelvinator Refrigerator
Still Penny Bank

For Your Penny Bank or Refrigetaor Related Antique and very nice cast iron bank in the form of a Kelvinator Refrigerator. This bank is cast in the form of an early refrigerator with two vertical doors and a bottom drawer. The doors show the hinges and the handles to open them, while the drawer has a handle detailed. The left door has a fully functional hinge which shows the image of drawers inside the refrigerator when the door is open, see the second photo. The front has the word Kelvinator on top in raised lettering. The bank is painted in cream color and has lost the paint a few small spots but still retains over 98% of its original paint and looks great. This bank was produced in the period 1932-1934 by the Arcade company of Freeport, IL, USA. The bank has a one-piece back and bottom. The back is also painted in cream color but not the bottom portion. The back-bottom is held in place with the original screw, which we chose not to open and hence we did not see what maybe on the inside. This bank appears to be all original and retains quite a bit of its original coloring. This bank shows nice details of the refrigerator from the handles, the hinges, and the brand on the front. Just very nice and unusual bank worthy of a spot in your collection. The slot to insert the coin is on the back near the top. This is a very nice-looking penny or coin bank in very good condition. Please see page 125 in Andy and Susan Moor\'s Book \"The Penny Bank Book: Collecting Still Banks\" Published by Schiffer Books in 1984, for a photo of a similar example in the same color (bank #1338). Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

  • Date: Early 1930s
  • Origin: Made in the USA.
  • Size: The bank measures ~3 7/8\" high, is ~2 3/8\" wide, and ~1 5/8\" deep. The piece weighs slightly over one pound.
  • Maker: Arcade Toy.
  • Marks: The bank has no markings on the exterior and we choose not to open the bank so we are not certain if there is additional information/markings on the inside.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a great penny bank in excellent condition, which would make a nice addition to your collection.
  • Condition: The bank is in very good condition. It has no chips, cracks, breaks, or repairs. It appears to be all original but shows some minor paint losses as you can see from the photos. The screw holding the bank together appears to be original as are all the bank\'s parts. The slot where the coins would be inserted has a metal bar in front of it which we are not certain what it is but you still can insert the coins. In addition, the bottom of the bank appears to show some rust and appears to have been partially cleaned with an abrasive pad or something similar. Finally, the bank may have been repainted sometime in its life, but we are not certain. Be that as it may, this is a great all original bank worthy of a spot in your collection. Please view photos to appreciate the beauty of the bank and for additional condition information.
