1941 Yearbook Los Angeles Unified Luther Burbank Junior High California VTG WWII For Sale

This yearbook is from the Winter 1941 track of Luther Burbank Junior High School, published on the cusp of WWII. The school was built in 1927. The yearbook contains signatures and inscriptions. It measures approx 8 in x 11 in. It is in excellent condition with no torn or loose pages. Pages are bright and un-yellowed.

One rhyming inscription says: “When you get married and get in bed, Think of me and go ahead!”

Luther Burbank Junior High School is a rare example of an LAUSD junior high school building in Garvanza that pre-dates the 1933 Long Beach Earthquake, which subsequently did not require demolition or substantial reconstruction.

Luther Burbank (1849 - 1926) was an American botanist, horticulturist, and agricultural science pioneer. Burbank is best known for developing the Idaho russet potato. His other developments include: 113 varieties of plums and prunes, 10 varieties of berries, 50 varieties of lilies, The Freestone peach, and An improved spineless cactus for desert livestock (the City of Burbank was named after a David Burbank).
