1950 Marx, Fire Chief Car w/Flasing Light & Siren in Orig. Box:
$415.00

New TemplateToy Name:Marx, Fire Chief Carw/Flashing Light & Siren in Original BoxCompletewith original key.
Year: 1950 Description:Here\'s an awesome example of Marx\'spost-war \"Fire Chief Car with Flashing Light\". It comes complete withits original Marx key AND its original Marx box. Everything workstoo! The condition is fantastic easily grading excellent+ to nearmint. The box is complete and all original. It grades excellent. The toy is all tin litho including the roof and windows. The body isprimarily \"fire engine red\" with a widening white strip on the fronthood. A wide pale yellow/white and gray stripe goes all the way aroundthe base of the car. Passengers were lithoed in all the windows. Thebody is also highlighted with lots of colorful graphics includingyellow scrollwork, text, and Fire Dept. emblems. The frontradiator-headlight-bumper assembly is a single chrome plated part. Thechassis is white. The two front narrow tires are wood. The right rear tire is also wood, but is much wider than the other two. Only the left rear tire causesthe car to move. It\'s solid black rubber and is directly connected tothe motor. It uses a single D-cell battery to power the flashing redemergency roof light (original) and siren. It runs using a springpowered clockwork motor which winds-up wound using its original key.The key is seldom found with the car. The switchprotruding from the left rear windshield turns everything on (downposition) or off (up). The light and siren will only work when the caris moving. Again, everything works great. It has some really neat graphics on the box. It\'s printed in a dramaticcontrast of red and black on a white background. A ¾ perspective viewof the car is shown on the top and back main panels. A smaller sideview was printed on the front and rear. Text covers most of theremaining areas....and there\'s lots of it!Size: 11\" Condition: Even when never played with many of the Marx tinlitho vehicles produced during the late 1940\'s and early 1950\'s havelots of litho flaking on the corners of the fenders. Here\'s one of thefew I\'ve seen which doesn\'t have that characteristic. The lithosurfaces are smooth and uniform in color. Colors are intense with deepdark reds and brilliant whites. Even the underside chassis is stillbright white. Using a black light I confirmed that nothing wasrepainted or repaired. Chrome plating has no flaking or dulling. Ithasn\'t any dings, dents, scuffs or scratches. But it does have a coupleareas where the lithography was nicked off just slightly. One of theseis on the left side of the rear trunk and two more on the upper leftfront fender corner. Two smaller nicks are on the left edge of the roofjust above the driver\'s door, but these are pretty small. Just behindand to the right of this area on the roof is a faint line rub. It\'s notreally a scratch because it didn\'t seem to penetrate through to themetal, but nevertheless it can still be seen (although this is mostlywhen tilted). It\'s about ¾\" long and unfortunatelywould not show up in my photo\'s. The chassis has acouple of isolated nicks between the two front tires, as well as infront and sides of the motor housing. If you divide the car in half andlook at it upside-down these nicks are limited to the front half of thechassis. All of these points are individually minor, but in total Ifelt they were enough to assign a half a grade less than near mintcondition. Siren, flashing light, and motor, again, all work great! The box is all original and complete with all six endflaps firmlyattached. It\'s in excellent condition. The white areas are bright withjust a tinge of faint yellowing; except for two panels which are veryslightly darkened (see 2nd to last box photo). Also, the front and rearmain panels each have a large horizontal arc-shaped crease near oneedge running the entire width (as if someone grabbed it with one handand squeezed). One of the shorter panels has only a single edge crease.Corners have small wear spots, but the edges are fairly clean withoutany chipping. One of the endflaps where it tucks into the box waspartially torn at the seam. This is on the same endflap which hasdarkened slightly and can been seen in the same photo as previouslynoted. Lastly one of the main panels is slightly \"yellower\" compared tothe opposite panel. It has a small spot of sticker residue just abovethe right headlight and a little light brown mark over the \"ic\" in theword \"electric\" (see 3rd box photo down).Overall a really nice example in an uncommonly high grade.
