Epic capture of a milestone event in 1958 Yorkshire, England. Duke Ellington meets the Queen of England in the reception line. Rumor has it that the line was held up as Edward Ellington flirted with Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II.

This is an original 4 1/2” x 6 3/8” black and white photograph from 1958.

It is stamped “Copyright of the Yorkshire Post, the Yorkshire Evening Post Leeds and The Doncaster Chronicle”

The photographer is not credited nor is this photograph date stamped.

It is an original photograph printed from the original negative of the newspaper at the time 1958. It is retrieved from the personal collection of Duke Ellington Orchestra’s long time road manager.

This photo is clear and without creases. It does exhibit some light surface scratches and miniature surface blemishes.

The picture represents the inspiration for Duke Ellington’s hit recording called ‘ The Queen’s Suite’.

This is an historic meeting of two icons of the 20th century.
