$970.00

1965 Gottlieb Cowpoke Add-A-Ball(AAB)Wedgehead Pinball Machine with Backbox Animation:

Here is one of themost collectiblepinball machines ever made, if not THE most collectible:Cowpoke. The backbox animation is the real star of this machine, along with itbeing an AAB machine, but the game play is challenging, as well, testing your skill and aim at hitting the correct targets at the righttime. When you achieve certain score levels, or win extra balls, the animatedhorse in the backbox bucks up his hind legs and sends thecowboybehind him SPINNING! Just classic. The problem isthat while you\'re playing, you always want to watch the horse and cowboy anddon\'t pay attention to your ball in play! I think that was the intent ofthe manufacturer and operators so that you DIDN\'T get high scores to win extraballs and prolong your game! It\'s almost as fun to watch someone ELSEplay the game so you can watch the animation. Either way, this machine isguaranteed to draw a crowd and will see endless action in your gameroom! ButI really saved the best news for last, this machine is working GREAT with FASTaction on the playfield, STRONG flippers, and LOUD bells! Get it home, plug it in, and PLAY! It doesn’t get any easier or any better thanthat. And add in a new reproduction backglassa and a VERY niceplayfield and you definitely have a winning combination.

Although this machine is technicallymechanically unshopped, other than having all of the bad bulbs replaced, it isworking GREAT. Literally get it home, plug it in and play. Being anEM machine that has been sitting idle in my storage for a little while, I’mgoing to stop short of guaranteeing that everything is working perfectly at alltimes, but after playing a few games to prep for this sale, let me say that itis working about 99.9% correctly right now with FAST and STRONG action on theplayfield. I didn’t notice ANY glitches, everything seemed to be workingperfectly. Get it home and start to enjoy PLAYING it rather than workingon it, just the way we all like to find them. With its very nicebackglass and playfield, this is DEFINITELY a machine that can go right in yourhome without embarrassing you! If fully working mechanics and very nicecosmetics meet your requirements, make sure you keep reading!

The backglass is a new reproduction andis literally in near perfect condition. I don’t see any imperfections inthe paint; only a little rubbing where it touches against the internal backboxwoodwork. This glass is the real deal with silkscreened paint on plateglass made to the exact graphics and colors as the original. It has greatcolors that are clear, bright and show no sign of any fading. Nodisappointment in this glass, it is virtually perfect! The periodgraphics are just outstanding, too. Nothing better in my opinion. The horses and western cowgirls definitely lend themselves well to the name ofthe machine! The cardboard background scenery behind the animation is inexcellent shape with no problems, great colors, and more period western graphicsthat contribute to the overall theme. The animated horse and cowboy arealso fantastic with strong colors, no damage to either, and good action fromboth. No disappointments with either the backglass or animation features, they all look great.

The playfield paint is also in excellentcondition. Althoughit is short of perfect, it isn’t too far from it! Considering thismachine is fifty years old, it is in outstanding shape! There is a LITTLEbit of chipping next to the numbered plastic inserts in the center, a littlebit of past flipper drag in the clear wood surface above the flippers, and aLITTLE bit of woodgrain cracking that you can start to see in some of the solidcolored areas, but take a look at the photos, this is a NICE playfield! When looking at this playfield from the player’s view, you will probably saythat it is perfect. It is that nice. The imperfections I mentionare meant to let you know this playfield is short of perfect, but withoutlooking at it VERY closely, you aren’t going to see any of them! All ofthe colors are outstanding and bright with no sign of any fading. Thegraphics, lettering, numbers, etc. are all nearly perfect. All of theplastics are in near mint shape, too, with no cracks/breaks,strongcolors, and more western graphics. Even the rubber ring set appears to benearly new and gives good “bounce.” The roto-target faces have beenreplaced with new decals and look fantastic with no wear at all in thegraphics. All six correctround bumper caps are in place. Fiveof the six appear to be new, the top one has some slight burn-through from thebulb underneath, but this cap has also been reproduced so you can replace it ifyou want. The silkscreened scenery ontop of the roto-target cover isalso in great shape. The bottom metal playfield apron is also in greatshape with only a couple very small level card is in place in nice shape.

Playfield features include one round deadbumper at the top, five rollover lanes at the top, three round pop bumpers, asingle round dead bumper on each side below the top rollovers, a singlerollover lane along each middle side,a sunburst paddle target in front ofthe roto-target, another singlerollover lane along each bottomside, another two below/in between the flippers, and various other rubbercontact points that award scoring. A LOT of targets and a nicevariety. Each time you hit all four of the yellow rollovers, you winan extra ball. Hitting the numbers on the roto-target lights thatnumbered insert in the lower portion of the playfield. Get four numbersin a row lit and win an extra ball. Each additional adjacent lit numberawards another extraball so you can win up to four extra balls if youlight all seven numbers! And then they reset so you can try to hit themall again! You can also win extra balls for achieving certain scorelevels. You can have up to ten balls to play during any one time duringthe game. But make no mistake, the REAL draw of this machine (beyond itsGREAT play,) is the backbox animation! Make sure you\'re watchingwhen the horse kicks upits back legs and sends the cowboy spinning!CLASSIC! And as I mentioned, this playfield is playing VERY WELL withnice pop from the bumpers, strong flippers that can shoot the ball back to thetop, nice slingshots, and loud bells. This is a FUN playfieldlayout! Get the machine home, plug it in, and PLAY!

The cabinet paint, for the most part, appearsto be original. It is starting to show its age with scratches, chips andnicks throughout, but give it a break, it is 50 years old! It has sometouchup, mostly at the top of the left side of the backbox where a couple whitesquares have been painted and now don’t match the rest of the cabinet. With the original design and colors in place, though, you could certainlyrepaint the cabinet to the factory specs and the result will be a machine thatlooks like it just came out of the factory! In the meantime, I like a fewcharacter flaws, but that’s just me. You be the judge. The coindoor and entry plate are also starting to show their age with some noticeablesurface rust. If you were to repaint the cabinet, all of the hardware featureson the front of the machine have been reproduced so you could replace them andliterally have it look like it did from the factory! The machine iscurrently set to free-play by pressing the coin return button on the coin doorbut the backside of the door includes all wiring and hardware, except for thedime coin mech, to allow you to convert this back to coin play, if youwanted. There are locks/keys for both the coin and originalmetalbackbox doors. The chrome legs are in pretty nice shape with some surfacerust. It looks like most of it should buff out but you may be left with alittle that won’t come out. The leg bolts are new.Theoriginallockdown bar with its two chromeend pieces is in place (alot of times replaced by a later-model bar.) The chrome on the end capsis in great shape with barely an imperfection, as is the stainless steel centerportion of the bar.

Payment for the machine is to bereceived within seven days of the end of the sale.Credit cards are accepted through Paypal. Provided it is paid for at theend of the sale, I can hold the machine for as long as you need so you canmake arrangements to either pick it up or have it shipped. If picked up,ONLY cash will be accepted, or a Paypal payment must be made prior topickup. Whatever pickup/shipping method works best for you, I\'ll try toaccommodate your needs, but payment is still to be received within seven daysof the end of the sale.

If you need shipping, I wouldrecommend you contact Michelle Bianchi, Precision Transportation Agent, mbianchi at precision-nal dot com,[phone removed by ] (toll free [phone removed by ]) for a quote. Available shippingoptions include door to door service including all of the loading, unloading,blanket-wrapping, shrink-wrapping, etc. When shipping multiplemachines, the \"per machine\" cost is SIGNIFICANTLY reduced, so makesure you look at my other sales and/or ask me what other machines I haveavailable right now! In rough numbers, it generally costs about$350-375 in total to ship a single machine to the east coast from here andabout $400-425 to the west coast. I have also worked with a few othershipping companies and can help steer you in the right direction. Mypreference is to work with a company that provides door to door service whichnot able to crate or palletize the machine myself, I can help to arrange foroutside crating and international shipping, with you paying all of theassociated costs.

This machine is not only for the collector, but also for the PLAYER! If your long range goal is to have a machine thatlooks as good as the day it came out of the factory, look no further. Withthe new reproduction backglass, excellent playfield, and strong workingcondition, all it needs is a cabinet repaint and it will look like new!But in the meantime, enjoy PLAYING this machine! You may never stopplaying it long enough to allow yourself to have the cabinet repainted becauseit is that FUN to play! Enjoying its play or just looking at it all litup, this machine has everything going for it. Don\'t miss the backglassanimation when the horse kicks the cowboy and sends him spinning! Anddon\'t forget aboutthe AAB feature, either. Everything addsup to aWINNING combination. If you\'ve been waiting foraCowpoke to come along, and were hoping that it would be a NICE one, thisis your answer! This is a great opportunity to add a classic machine toyour collection or gameroom, and have fun PLAYING it, too, unlike a LOT ofother \"collectible\" machines. This Cowpoke is definitely niceenough for the collectors, but plays well enough for the player. It willimmediately fit into ANY gameroom!
