19thC French Montigny-Sur-Loing Theodore Lefront Signed French Barbotine VASES :
$356.00

This is for a VERY VERY RARE matched set of authentic antique French Majolica. A style of 19th Century majolica called Barbotine pottery. Stunning square formed vases. With beautiful hand made and applied large flower on the front. One has a pink tulip with stem and small flowers underneath. The other has a blue iris with stem and small flowers below. So you could say it\'s a his and hers set. Very cool and unique. They are unique in form. As I have sold and seen lots of Barbotine pottery but never in a square tapered body. Also they are rare as they are signed by two different artists. Usually never signed. But these are signed on the bottom with a stamped TE overlapping mark for Theodore LeFront who made the pottery at the Montigny-Sur-Loing studio in France. Then to top it off they are stunningly hand painted with a wonderful Impressionist style mottled green glaze all over with leaves which look so real you thought you could grab them and then on the back both have awesome blackberry clusters on them. And the artist who painted the piece also signed them both!! In the front lower right corner with L.L. initials. I do not know who this would be. But someone has to know. Someone who has records for the factorywould know who painted for them. So there you have it. A rare shape and large size of 12-1/2\" Tall by 5-1/2\" squared. And then signed by both the potter and painter. A simply gorgeous and unique pair to be sold for a sure deal. The condition is typical of most barbotine pottery from the late 19th Century. There is glaze loss around the sharp corner edges and rim and foot. There is also some damage to the high relief flowers. Mainly the tulip has a large petal broken. What appear to be Factory made holes in the bottom for lamps. See pictures for detailed views of the damage. No large chips or cracks to the body at all. Some crazing from the firing of the piece in the kiln as well. Superior pieces do not miss them.
