30s vintage CARBON ARC 35mm Movie Theater Projector Wurlitzer jukebox camera era:
$812.72

If you are in the continental United States and are interested in having the projector shipped, please read the Shipping Terms paragraph below before offerding so you have an understanding of the shipping method and time frame for delivery. For international buyers I have provided a flat rate shipping cost for air freight which includes packing and crating.

Here we have a Simplex Acme 35mm sound movie projector made in the early 1930s. This projector was installed new circa 1934 at the Michigan State Prison (Jackson Prison) where it was used to periodically entertain the inmates until it was taken out of service in the 1970s. If this projector could talk, it would probably just scream.

The entire machine weighs around 280 lbs. Luckily it comes apart easily so that two people can move it without any problem. The two film magazines come off with a couple of thumb screws, and the entire projection unit can be removed from the base by taking out four large wing nuts. The base even comes apart into two sections easily by just loosening one of the large nickel plated fittings at the bottom. Although a large machine when fully assembled, it is quick and easy to take apart and not bad to move once broken down, so if you want to put it upstairs or in your basement it won\'t be a big deal.

The overall dimensions when fully assembled are: 71\'\' tall from the very top of the upper film magazine to the floor, 68\'\' from very front to very back and 28\'\' wide at the widest point of the base.

The Simplex Acme is a hard to find projector. Unlike the line of typical Simplexes (Standard, Super, E-7, X-L) the Acme machines were designed with institutional use in mind, such as schools, hospitals and prisons. Some were even purchased by the military and used onboard the early aircraft carriers and large naval vessels. Because of their design for these types of venues rather than the typical commercial theatres, far fewer of these Acme machines were produced than the run of the mill Simplex projectors.

The Acme machines were designed to be an \"all in one\" projector, meaning that the arc lamp, sound mechanism and projection mechanism are all built together as one large unit, whereas these components were all made individually on the typical Simplex machines. The idea was for the Simplex Acme to be \"semi portable.\" Basically, they could be taken apart and quickly moved to a different location without hiring specialized technicians, unlike the models intended for commercial theatres.

I have always loved the look of the Simplex Acme projectors. They have a great industrial design and make an eye catching display piece. If you have one of these in your game room next to a Wurlitzer 1015, I\'ll bet the projector will get more looks than the jukebox.

The projector is in good all original condition. There is some light surface rust on the sheet metal of the lamp housing (this is typical as the finish of the metal was gun bluing) The black paint shows some wear and there are some areas of oxidation on the aluminum. The projector hasn\'t been abused and there are no broken or cracked parts and no large dents or other issues.

I inspected the projector mechanically and it is in very nice mechanical condition. When I first got it a few years ago I shot some oil in it and turned it on for a while. It ran great but its been a few years since I ran it, so you should make sure it is properly lubricated before you apply power to it.

If you actually plan to use the projector, you will need a power supply for the arc lamp if you plan to run it as an arc machine. Most people just install a 1000 or 1500 watt incandescent bulb inside of the original lamp housing. You will also need a sound amplifier and power supply for the exciter lamp, but with the proper power applied and some cleaning and lubrication you can certainly project movies with it again.

SHIPPING TERMS: First of all, you are more than welcome to pick the projector up and there is no charge for this. You can also make your own shipping arrangements if you like. Otherwise, shipping in the continental USA will take place as follows:

Because of the increasing cost of freight shipments, I am now using www.uship.com to transport large items such as this projector. I have used it on at least 20 items without any problems. Here is a quick run-down of how it works. Make sure you read this before offerding. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Using my Uship account I will put a listing together for this shipment which includes the size and weight of the projector as well as my zip code and the destination zip code. Once I enter this information I begin receiving offers from shippers who are willing to take on the shipment. The Uship website has a response system just like , so I can choose a good reliable shipper based on their response rating. Once I choose a shipper I provide them with your address and your telephone number so that they can call you to schedule delivery of the projector. Delivery times with Uship shipments can vary depending on the route and schedule of the shipper. Please allow up to 45 days from the date of payment for the projector to be delivered. This time frame is a worst case scenario. Typically I have had shipments take 15 to 20 days.

Who are the shippers?: The shippers on U-ship are essentially independent delivery drivers. They own a cargo van or similar vehicle and will book shipments for a given route until they have enough shipments to make the trip profitable. What I like about using these shippers versus a commercial freight company is that they handle the shipments with great care because they are personally responsible for them, and if something bad happens they won\'t get paid for the shipment. This projector will be loaded onto their van and will not come off until it reaches your door. With a commercial freight company it would be dragged around by some kid on a fork lift at a dozen different terminals between my house and yours. Also, these guys are much more affordable and easier to work with than commercial freight companies.

How payment works: The shipper does not get paid until they safely deliver the projector to you. After I book the shipment, U-ship will give me a payment code which I will provide to you. It is simply a 6 or 8 digit number. When the shipper safely delivers the projector, you just give them the code and they use it via their Uship account to receive payment.

What do you have to do?: All that you have to do is provide me with your address and a good working telephone number. After that you just wait to receive a call from the shipper who will contact you to schedule the delivery. Once they safely deliver the projector, you give them the payment code that I provide and that\'s it. They drive off into the sunset and you get to enjoy your projector!
