8 Vintage Place Mats Napkins Set Shadow Work Embroidery 1960\'s Swiss Organdy
This is a truly superb set of eight place mats and matching napkins, with exquisite shadow work embroidery. The place mats are crisp and sheer cotton organdy, the napkins are linen with organdy insets.The color palette of the embroidery is special, with a rusty red border, and a harmonious blend of colors to work the flowers and decorative elements. I am confident these are circa 1960\'s, and that they are more than likely Swiss, due to the quality of the materials, and the expert workmanship. I have had a few other shadow work linens in the past which were similar quality, and they had Swiss labels. (I have been selling vintage linens for almost 40 years). My impression is that these were used very little or not at all. There are some age spots (very faint) on the place mats, and several of the napkins also have age spots (see photos) A gentle soak should most likely remove the spots. The place mats measure 11x17, and the napkins are 16\" square. One of the close up photos shows the back of the embroidery, so you can see why this is called shadow embroidery. It is worked on sheer fabric, so the shadow of the embroidery on the wrong side will show through to the front. The silverware in one of the photos is for presentation purposes only; it is not included.Vintage shadow work is extremely scarce! This set would be absolutely stunning in Grand Millennial decor.
