Made to the exact standards as used around 1916-1928 by the Auto Club of Southern California. This is the larger (18 inch) variant with the three colors. The highway was established in 1914, formed by the union of the National Road, the Santa Fe Trail, the Trail of the Padres and a handful of other roads from New York to Los Angeles. The segment from Santa Fe, New Mexico to its western terminus later became US Route 66 in 1926. An original of these, complete with the logo of the Automobile Club of Southern California, would cost many thousands of dollars if it ever came to the market. This is a high quality, heavy steel sign. It is 18 by 18 inches, and weighs 8 pounds and 4 ounces. Accept no imitations that may be one-third this price, but are one-tenth the quality. No cheap tin to be found here, with the wrong fonts, layouts, size, shape, or any other manner of embarrassing imperfection.
