ONE OF A KIND. Provenance: private collection. Exceptional and imposing marble sculpture of a male elephant with his child. Unsigned but made in France during middle 20th century. This is, without a doubt, the most expressive, dynamic, powerful and natural elephant marble sculpture I have ever seen. Of unsurpassed quality. I have not found a marble sculpture whose quality surpasses this one. I have not even been able to find a sculpture of any kind made with this incredible luxury marble known as green botanical marble. A marble of great visual impact and varied and contrasting green veins. Regarding its composition, the crossed bodies of the elephants, with non-linear or rigid postures, as well as the permanent use of asymmetries give this magnificent artwork an astonishing naturalness and movement. The steep terrain allows the artist to further accentuate the naturalness, realism and dynamism of the slightly inclined bodies that distribute their weight over the four legs, giving each of them a posture according to the position of the body. The furrows of the skin, the trunk and the ears with their different patterns on a precisely carved anatomy in movement further accentuate its wild and realistic appearance and give the sculpture an extraordinary character.
