Antique enameled commemorative Khodynka Cup of Sorrows created for the coronation of Tsar (Czar) Nicholas II and Tsarina (Czarina) Alexandra Feodorovna in 1896, an event that would live in infamy after more than a thousand civilians were killed in a devastating crowd crush, spurred by the rumor that the commemorative cups that were being distributed contained gold. This cup is made from enameled metal decorated with gilt rims and features a red and blue geometric design with Nicholas and Alexandra's cyphers on one side and the Romanov eagle on the opposite. This cup has been referred to as a "Coronation Cup," "Sorrow Cup," and "Blood Cup." This cup has not been restored or altered since its creation. Wear includes fading gilt, loss of enamel, small dents, and other imperfections consistent with the cups history and age.
