Wonderful Antique English Doulton-Type Stoneware Pub Pitcher with Multiple Applied-Relief Decorations including Three Comic English Caricatures, Windmill, and a Mounted Horseman with Fox Hounds, Probably 1780-1830.
This early English stoneware pub pitcher is one of the best examples I have encountered. The tall dark brownneckis reminiscent of earlier leather flagons. The applied-relief molded decorationsare well defined and intact and include:three comic English caricatures including \"Old Tom\" (marked on his barrel), a windmill, and a mounted fox hunter with his hounds around the lower half. The handle is nicely ribbed and has elaborate applied decoration at the base mimicking early metalwork. Most examples offered online are much later copies and are usually signed. Similar to early stoneware made by Doulton at Lambeth, London, England.
The piece is unsigned, as expected of early examples, and was probably made around 1780-1830.
Condition: Excellent. No chips, cracks, losses to applied relief decorations, or repairs. Very minor overall wear commensurate with age
Dimensions: 6-1/4\" tall, 4-1/4\" base diameter, 6-1/4\" maximum width (spout>handle)
