Description EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH LITHOGRAPH BYHIPPOLYTE LALAISSE, CHARPENTIER BOOK ILLUSTRATIONThis wonderful French lithograph is from the very early part of the nineteenth century. It is an illustration by Hippolyte Lalaisse. Printed in the left lower corner is "Hipte" (with the te raised - an abbreviation for Hippolyte), followed by "Lalaisse". Lalaisse was a well known artist and lithographer of the period. Inside the border of French lines surrounding the lithograph is a signature in script of the artist, the gentleman described above. The coloration of the lithograph is exquisite. The illustration comes from a book on costumes from Brittany by Charpentier, whose name is in the lower right corner. We see the coif of the Bretonne girl and the costume of the Breton shepherd. Beside the young couple are two resting sheep. The silver frame is perfect for the subject. It is loose at the top corners and shows some wear, but is appealing nonetheless. The frame is 9.25 inches by 11.5 inches. The lithograph dimensions are 8 inches by 10.25 inches. Get images that
