Antique French Curtain Provence Provencal Turkey red w/ printed border c1815 For Sale

~ A wonderful and rare discovery! ~*~ This textile is well and truly amazing, in every way ~ this textile is a Provencal curtain panel that dates c1815~ this panel is constructed by using the most wonderful homespun panel, hand stitched down the center , linen and cotton blend and piece dying the wonderful Turkey red. The borders are a printed border also from Provence using the gorgeous stylized paisley that Provence was famous for ~ the wonderful colors are stunning and rich, again very famous Provencal tones of red, turquoise, blue and a muted yellow tone~ the borders are all block printed using hand carved wooden blocks. The borders are printed both on a light to medium weight linen and cotton mix fabric and the heavy weight , homespun cotton ~ dense weave. The borders are all hand stitched on to the Turkey red panel. The red ground cloth has faded so beautifully with time. The weft weave has faded unevenly to the warp, giving that truly wonderful aged look that only time can do for these textiles ~ This panel comes from an important private collection and has been stored lovingly for many many years ~ Absolutely beautiful used exactly as is, ideal use as a bed cover, wall hanging, etc....amazing for any textile collection. MEASUREMENTS: This lovely panel measures 52 inches wide by 95 inches long ~

CONDITION: This textile is in as found, unwashed condition with storage dust and on the back there is storage dirt. I do not recommend cleaning this textile other than by a textile restoration specialists. It\'s simply too important to risk! There is storage dust, however there is nothing that would stop me from using this textile exactly as is. There is a quarter sized stain on the back ( please see photographs) and there are some marks on the back also that will never clean. There is a small rust mark that has developed as small hole in the fabric. If one were planning to hang and the storage marks on the back were not acceptable, I would simply recommending hand basting a backing to this panel ~*~ There are some wonderful hand stitched darns in places also. There is a small section of the border that has come unstitched and will need to be stitched back on to the red ground. This textile has faded with time, unevenly in places ( beautifully!! ) ~ it\'s an extraordinarily beautiful textile, one that will be cherished for many many years to come ~ ~*~ ~*~
