Antique Montgomery Ward 62-313 Movie Dial 13 Tube Radio for Restoration -- RARE:
$99.99

You are offerding on a 1936 Montgomery Ward 13-tube model 62-313 \"Movie Dial\" radio chassis.Montgomery Ward\'s \"Movie Dial\" radios were manufactured for them by Wells Gardner during the mid 1930\'s. These unusual radios are called \"Movie Dials\" because instead of the usual round tuning dial they used a piece of 35mm film with stations listed by name and frequency. An ingenious system of lenses and mirrors projected the station information onto a ground glass screen. As the tuning knob was turned, stations appeared on the screen. This tuning method simulated an enormous long dial and allowed very precise tuning. It also made the the dial much easier to read. This particular Movie Dial radio is a top-of-the-line 1936 model 62-313 with 13 vacuum tubes, a chromed chassis, and dual speakers. It is serial number 2D 700520. As you can see from the photos, the chassis is in excellent cosmetic condition and appears to be almost entirely unmolested except for the antenna jack on the back, a new line cord, and a filter capacitor replacement.
This radio was designed to use two 12-inch speakers. I only have one of them, part number 12A245. It is included with the chassis (see last 2 photos).I have never had the cabinet for this radio, nor the knobs, nor any other hardware. Just what is shown in the photos. Both speakers are required for the B+ filter circuit to operate properly and I have only the 12A245, so I am unable to test this radio. Therefore it is sold as-is for restoration or parts.I always planned to restore this radio for my personal collection, but have not found a suitable cabinet and don\'t have time to get to it anyway. So I\'m offering this chassis and speaker to other collectors as a restoration project.
This is a heavy radio, so I would prefer the buyer to take advantage of FREE local pickup. But I have extensive experience packing valuable antique radios, so if necessary I can ship it. If this item is shipped the speaker will ship separately to protect both the chassis and speaker against damage. The cost for this dual shipping has been factored into the shipping estimate. If my actual cost to ship turns out to be less than \'s estimate I will refund the excess after shipping.I have been collecting and restoring vintage radios and TV\'s for more than thirty years. Please see my other listings for more vintage electronics items.
