For Easter, from Bertha’s (my mother) estatecollection comes this exceptional Reliquary Crucifix with a beautiful giftrelic encased in wax, with a Bishop’s intact red seal. The descriptioninside the cross is of an “ex arca sepulerali - fragment from the coffin.
St. Therese was buried on 4 October 1897, in a Carmeliteplot, in the municipal cemetery at Lisieux, where her parents had been buried.Her body was exhumed in September 1910 and the remains placed in a lead coffinand transferred to another tomb. This fragment is BELIEVED TO BE from the 1910 exhumationand is wood collected by a Carmelite sister.
The Reliquary is 4 inches long and is made of bronze withebony inlays. It weighs 2 ounces.
