This listing is for an Antique STANDARD Model A Talking Machine Phonograph Graphophone WORKS Nice condition & 1 record. First introduced around 1909, this model was part of an interesting promotional scheme. Customers could collect coupons from local merchants to purchase the machine at a reduced cost. It features an oversized quarter-inch spindle, limiting its use to special Standard records, which were also carried by the aforementioned merchants​​. Since the components are made by Columbia, I believe a regular Columbia turntable could be fitted to this standard model A, thus allowing it to play regular 75 rpm records as well as these specialized standard ones with that wide hole. It has a nice clear sound to it. It appears to be fully working. It winds smoothly and plays through a full record. Works best if started at full speed then slowed down to the record. The design is excellent for many rooms and a large variety of decor styles. The horn has been repainted, that & the felt I believe are the only non-original components. It has a great early 20th century / Edwardian look- just a classic image people picture when thinking of the word “phonograph”. It makes this an excellent staple piece for your collection, one your friends definitely won’t have! A great collectors item, for use display gifting or decor.

It is in good condition, with no major damage. The case is in great shape, with only minor wear. No splitting or cracks. Decal is also in great condition for its age. 2 of the screws that hold the “lid” on are stripped- however between the other 2, the handle, and the weight of the motor, it is more than enough to hold it down. Reproducer is in good shape, appears to be all original, but the needle definitely needs replaced and affects sound quality right now. I am unsure which needle to use, so I have left the original in place for now. Motor is in nice shape and plays smoothly. The record plays fine, but it is well played. This does have the bonus of giving it a neat extra layer of old timey sound though.
