Itsuse was to scatter large numbers of them on a road to slow the pursuit of the enemy by hurting horses that would step on them or go through the boots of the soldiers.It is a unique piece of militaria that would make a great addition to any collection of original period items.Despite their age, these caltrops remains in good / fair condition and would be standout pieces in any collection of Civil War memorabilia.These caltrops each measure approximately 1”.
