PROVENANCE All substantiated by the documents shown in this listing (copies of the documents will be provided to the buyer)...This print was originally given by Edward & Brett Weston to filmmaker Louis Clyde Stouman circa 1955 for use in the production of his highly acclaimed award winning movie documentary \"THE NAKED EYE\" which featured the life of Edward Weston. Stouman later consigned the print (on date unknown) to established rare book and rare print sellers, Zeitlin & Ver Brugge of Los Angeles Ca. Jake Zeitlan, who had had a strong artist/dealer relationship with Edward Weston for years and (Edward had photographed Zeitlins\'s son in 1936), sold the print in 1980 to a former graphic design professor (I am not disclosing his name for privacy) at Coker college and later Western Carolina University. The professor loaned this print (among a collection of other Weston prints) to the High Museum of Modern Art in 1989 for display in their gallery for a period of four years. After that time the print was returned to the professor (who had it beautifully archivally framed and matted) where it remains in his possession. He has consigned its sale along with other Weston prints (3 previously sold) to me. Images of provenance documents include (in order of timeline):
• Poster image from NAKED EYE Documentary 1955 ( for reference)
  • Letter to Jake Zeitlin of Zeitlin & Ver Brugge Booksellars to buyer (professor) re: print purchases (September 4, 1980)
  • Invoice From Zeitlin & Ver Brugge (September 4, 1980)
  • Letter to professor (buyer) from Zeitlin & Ver Brugge regarding shipment and increase in value of Weston prints (December 3, 1980)
  • High Museum of Art Loan Agreement (June 13, 1989)
Added information: Also included in the documentation is a letter and consignment documents from Kathleen Ewing Gallery July-Aug. 2005) stating the Weston prints were further researched and were not \"project Prints\" but are Indeed a group of prints directly produced for the documentary by Brett Weston and given to Lou Stouman by the Westons. Although the Saquaro Print was not consigned (but kept and framed by the owner) it was part of the original group of prints purchased fromZeitlin & Ver Brugge.
  • Inventory List from Professor presented to Kathleen Ewing Gallery (July 1, 2005) noted pencil inscriptions
  • LETTER from Kathleen Ewing Gallery regarding her research on provenance of prints (August 1, 2005)
  • Consignment Agreement form Kathleen Ewing Gallery (August 1, 2005)

US State Department (website) internet page (for reference) of Weston images (same image shown)
Condition: Excellent condition and a beautifully printed image, archivally matted and framed in a cherry wood frame under glass. Please examine images for condition. Note it is difficult to avoid reflections when photographing through glass ...there is a refection on the bottom center of matt in the first photo. Will be very safely packed and shipped flat via priority mail. Please Note... I spoke with the owner (professor) who provided me with the photos and documents. The prints do not have signatures or stamps but they do have original cataloque numbers in their backs (see Ewing consignment document) that correspond to the actual Naked Eye documentary sequences in which they were used. The prints were produced especially for the documentary by Brett Weston. Edward his father, had Parkinsons disease (his hands were probably unsteady) and so he and Brett selected the negatives and Edward oversaw the printing of the negatives.
