I purchased this basket in 1972, when I was a college student and volunteered to work at a United Nations store on Union Street in San Francisco, California. I've owned it since then but now me and my wife are downsizing.
When I bought the basket, the description was that it was a "winnowing basket", indicating that that was what it was used for in Ethiopia. Times have changed, of course, and now they are advertised as "bread baskets". Fine. You will own it, so you can use it any way that you prefer.
But you could also just display it in your living room or on one of your walls, and research its provenance so that you can explain to your family and friends the history of these beautiful baskets.
