Here is a wonderful natural mortality plate from the world-famous fossil beds of Fossil Lake, Green River Formation, Wyoming. From the Eocene, 52 million years ago.
The plate has 5 naturally black Knightia. It is from the Gastropod layer of the ancient lake.
One of the 5 Knightia is a giant among that species. It is 6 inches long, and on top of that, it is a very deep-bodied fish, not skinny like most long ones. Amazing fins, along with great scutes, scales, skull, vertebrae, and other bones. This one fish alone is arguably worth the entire price.
The other 4 fish are smaller, but no less awesome in their colors and body composition. No disarticulation anywhere.
The plate is about 15.1 inches by 9.2 inches, and it weighs about 8 lbs. 6 oz. The plate has a very sought-after natural rustic look. In addition to the 5 Knightia, there are partially buried remnants of several additional partial fish. The reverse side has the imprint made by a gastropod.
