German Vintage Royal Hunting Dagger Knife Sword Hirschfanger w Maker\'s Mark: $1100.00
This Hirschfanger (Deer Fang) has a hand engraved hunting scene on both sides of the blade (one deer and the other boar hunt), excellentpatina, no rust dings nor dents.Given the maker\'s mark (see pics) this blade was made byCarl Eickhorn, Solingen, Germany (etched maker\'s mark) - 1935 to 1941. (SeeEdged Weapon Blade Marks at German Daggers.com) and commissioned by Weersbfsg. This is the first model with full metal scabbard. It has a hand engraved solid brass handle with stag/doe\'s head cross guard, and engraved hunting scene on the clamshell guardunder the cross guard. The unique parts of this piece: 1) the full brass hilt makes the blade and hilt feel like one solidpiece given the excellent workmanship by Eickhorn, and the turned-down hilt makes it feel more ergonomic; 2) the weight of the hilt brings the balance point to the thumb and index finger which allows for more precise thrusting; and 3) this was one of, if not the last runof these weapons, as all the blade makers turned their focus to making Service daggers and swords for the Third Riech.I purchased this in 1981 in Bavaria. This was used by German/Austrian Royalfamilies for hunting Hirsch deer (elk size). The mediumlength (appox 20\") blade was used to pierce the heart of a wounded animal.It\'s a very nice piece for a collection, only age, coupled with no interested heirs forces me to sell all of my sword and gun collections before I go. Any question, please ask, I\'m as easy as a quarter hooker when everyone is carrying fifty cent pieces. I\'m looking for a serious collector that will give this a good home. Recommend using vasoline on the blade as it is high carbon steel. I do have 2, 100% original military officer\'s daggers of the same period, one with hanger, that they won\'t let me sell here.
