For sale is an absolutely gorgeous late 19th century early turn of the century picture frame.
We are not 100% certain of the wood species but we believe it to be rosewood. It matches up very well with all of the Rosewood frame examples that we’ve seen. Someone suggested mahogany but we don’t think so. It’s certainly an exotic or fruit wood species. Please take a close look at our detailed pictures for your consideration.
The frame formally housed a steel engraving by the Hudson river school artist William Hart
The coloration of the surface is deep rich and absolutely beautiful. The frame with a thin inner beaded band.
Condition is overall very good for such an old frame. Just two areas with losses. On the beaded inner band. One area of bead loss seems to have been filled in with gold gilding color. SEE PICTURES.
The frame being able to be cut and resized to any desired size.
The frame could house a steel engraving, an old or vintage map, a watercolor, a photo, or any other type of artwork or item to be displayed in a frame
