This Continental Majolica Jardiniere was placed on a custom stand in Italy around 1850. Both the jardiniere and stand feature molded relief scroll panels and stylized flowerheads. They are in excellent condition with a slight sign of aging and both pieces together weigh 19.55 Lbs. Origins: Majolica was a kind of ware developed by the Minton factory circa 1850. It was created to imitate Renaissance ceramics from France and Italy. Majolica, an Anglicized version of the Italian word Maiolica used to describe these early pieces, was produced using colored glazes to accentuate heavily molded pieces. Many manufacturers in England, Europe, and North America soon copied this style
