Marguerite \"Peggy\" Watson \"Duchesse de Nemours\" Signed Letter Charles-PhilippeThe signed letter is not dated and measures 6.75 x 5.25 inches (some paper is stuck to the letter above the signature).
Marguerite Watson d\'Orléans, Duchesse de Nemours (2/12/1899 - 12/27/1993).
Marguerite \"Peggy\" Watson - Duchess of Nemours. The duchess was born Marguerite \"Peggy\" Watson on 12 February 1899 in Richmond, Virginia. In 1928, Peggy married Prince Charles-Philippe d\'Orléans (1905-1970), Duke of Nemours: he was the only son of Prince Emmanuel, Duke of Vendôme, and Princess Henriette of Belgium, the daughter of the Count and Countess of Flanders and the sister of King Albert I of the Belgians. To state that Charles-Philippe\'s parents were not initially pleased with their son\'s marriage to Miss Watson would be a massive understatement.
She and her husband, Charles-Philippe, Duc de Nemours, are buried in a double tomb bearing the coat of arms of the imperial family of Brazil. The tomb was originally used to house the mortal remains of Gaston, Comte d\'Eu, a grandson of Louis-Philippe, King of the French, and his wife, Princess Isabelle of Brazil. The tomb became available for reuse when the remains of the Comte d\'Eu and his wife were sent to Brazil for reburial.
This is part of a large collection of autographs that I will be listing over the next couple of days.
