Pernach (Pernat) is a bladed weapon with impact-crushing action, a silver or gilded mace, sometimes decorated with a ponytail and feathers on the ball.
It is a type of mace, smaller in size, to the head of which several (up to two dozen) metal plates (feathers) are molded. A variety of one-handed pernach with six feathers, called a six-feather, became widespread - a colonel's mace (also a colonel's staff) with a ball cut into six vertical blades.
Story :
With the advent of armor, the spherical head of the mace became almost useless against an armored warrior. Starting from the 14th century, the destructive force of an impact began to be increased with the help of plates welded to the head. Such weapons, with the same weight and size, deliver a more effective blow than a mace due to the smaller contact area. Also, in comparison with a mace, the likelihood of a blow slipping has been significantly reduced. The pernach broke through armor plates and shields, but did not get stuck or jammed in them (which made it compare favorably with the klevets, axes and morningsterns). In the XVI-XVII centuries. was made about 50 centimeters long and had an iron head with a diameter of about 14 cm.
There was a one-handed and two-handed version of the pernach. Typically, a two-handed European pernach had a warhead in the form of four metal plates located at right angles to each other and was up to two meters long.
On the shaft, the pernach had ring-shaped ridges that served as a guard and a support for the hands. The handle was often equipped with a loop for fastening on the hand and could end with a sharp tip.
The mass concentrated in the warhead of a one-handed weapon is from 200 to 700 g, the total mass is from 0.6 to 2.7 kg. The Pernach did not require special care (sharpening, assembly) and was durable, which made it an indispensable weapon on long hikes.
Combat effectiveness and comparative ease of manufacture led to the widespread use of the pernach (and its varieties: buzdykhan and six-feather) in the 13th - 16th centuries in Europe and the Muslim East (for example, already in the 13th century one or another type of hand-held pernach, along with the bow and saber, becomes one of the typical weapons of a professional equestrian warrior in the steppe zone of PLEASE,CHECK MY OTHER ITEMS - I DO COMBINE SHIPPING style="font-size: 14pt; text-align: center;">Shipping:After receiving payment I ship withing 5 - 7 business days!
